Velocity Frequent Flyer

Virgin Australia's program, alliance-free but partner-rich. Velocity Points across 80-plus partners, Status Credits for tiers.

Velocity Frequent Flyer is the loyalty program of Virgin Australia. Virgin Australia belongs to no global alliance, so Velocity relies on a broad partner network including Qatar Airways, United, and Singapore Airlines. Members earn Velocity Points on flights and a wide partner network, and earn Status Credits toward Silver, Gold, Forever Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Plus.

Velocity Frequent Flyer is the loyalty program of Virgin Australia. Like Etihad and LATAM, Virgin Australia flies outside the three global alliances, and Velocity compensates with an unusually broad partner network. Members earn and redeem Velocity Points across airline partners including Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, United, Air Canada, and ANA, and across a very large base of non-airline partners in retail, fuel, and financial services.

The program uses Velocity Points as its currency and Status Credits, earned by flying, to drive status across Red, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, joined on 1 October 2025 by lifetime Forever Gold and a new top published tier, Platinum Plus. Its non-airline earning is a particular strength: members can also transfer in points from American Express, Flybuys, and bank programs, and move Velocity Points out to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, giving the currency liquidity in both directions.

The lesson for an enterprise operator is the power of a dense everyday-earning network. Velocity's value to members comes less from flying Virgin Australia than from the constant, small accruals across supermarkets, fuel, cards, and shopping that keep the program present in daily life. For an operator whose own transactions are infrequent, building a wide web of everyday partners, and making the currency transferable, keeps members engaged between purchases and turns the program into a habit rather than an occasional event.
