KrisFlyer is the frequent flyer program of Singapore Airlines, launched in February 1999. It is a mile-earning program layered under one of the industry's most exclusive status structures. Members earn KrisFlyer miles on Singapore Airlines, low-cost sister carrier Scoot, and Star Alliance partners, and redeem them for awards and upgrades, with Singapore's own premium cabins the marquee use.
Status is deliberately split into two ladders. KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Gold are reached with Elite miles, the everyday status measure. Above them sits the PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club, which qualify only on PPS Value, earned on premium-cabin spend on Singapore Airlines itself. This walls off the airline's most valuable recognition tier so that only genuine premium buyers reach it, regardless of how many economy miles they collect.
The lesson for an enterprise operator is that a program can serve a broad base and a narrow elite at once by using different currencies for each. Singapore keeps millions engaged with earn-and-redeem miles while reserving its most scarce benefits for high-margin flyers through a separate qualification track. Segmenting recognition by currency, not just by threshold, lets an operator protect its highest tier from dilution.
