Cathay is the membership program of Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's flag carrier and a founding member of oneworld. It is the product of a consolidation: in 2022 Cathay Pacific folded its two former programs, the Asia Miles currency and the Marco Polo Club status scheme, into a single membership branded simply Cathay, retiring both as standalone programs that August. Asia Miles remains the spendable currency, earned on flights, co-brand cards, dining, and lifestyle partners across Asia, and redeemed on Cathay and oneworld carriers.

Status now runs one ladder, Green, Silver, Gold, and Diamond, earned through Status Points from flying. Collapsing two programs into one removed a long-standing source of member confusion, where customers held a currency account and a separate status membership that behaved differently and were often conflated.

The lesson for an enterprise operator is that dual-program structures carry a hidden tax in comprehension. When a currency scheme and a status club run in parallel with different names, members struggle to understand what they have and how to progress. Cathay's move to a single membership with one currency and one status ladder is a model for any operator carrying legacy programs from mergers or historical design, where simplification itself is the upgrade members notice most.
