JAL Mileage Bank

Japan Airlines' program in oneworld. Miles to redeem; status splits into annual FLY ON tiers and a lifetime Life Status track.

JAL Mileage Bank is the frequent flyer program of Japan Airlines, a oneworld member. Members earn miles on JAL, oneworld partners, and select carriers, redeemable for awards and upgrades. Status is earned through annual FLY ON Points, with a separate Life Status program rewarding cumulative lifetime flying and spend.

Revised 10 June 2025, raising premium-cabin award prices

JAL Mileage Bank is the frequent flyer program of Japan Airlines and, with rival ANA, one of the two anchors of Japanese airline loyalty. As a oneworld member, JAL lets members earn and redeem miles across a wide alliance network that includes American Airlines, British Airways, and Qatar Airways. JAL revised its award charts in June 2025, raising premium-cabin prices while making base miles easier to earn.

Status is unusually layered. Annual FLY ON Points drive the yearly status tiers, the familiar earn-it-each-year model. Alongside it, JAL runs a Life Status program that accumulates over a member's lifetime, recognising long-term loyalty that a single strong year cannot buy, and feeding the JAL Global Club for enduring recognition.

The lesson for an enterprise operator is that annual and lifetime recognition answer different member needs. A yearly tier motivates the current-year push, but it can feel punishing to loyal customers whose flying naturally slows. By adding a lifetime track, JAL gives long-tenured members a permanent stake that survives a quiet year, reducing the risk that a lifetime of loyalty evaporates the moment travel drops. Operators with aging or maturing member bases can use a lifetime layer to retain value that annual-only programs let slip away.
