Flying Blue launched in June 2005 as the shared loyalty program of the Air France-KLM Group, created after the two national carriers combined in 2004. Twenty years on it counts nearly 30 million members, and Air France-KLM reported that loyalty members generated 52 percent of passenger revenue in 2024, with active membership up 13 percent year over year.

The program separates spending currency from status currency. Miles are earned on Air France, KLM, and SkyTeam partner flights based on ticket price, at 4 to 9 Miles per euro depending on status, plus ground and retail partners. Experience Points (XP), earned by distance flown and cabin, determine status across Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Ultimate.

Recent years widened the earning ecosystem beyond flying: between 2023 and 2025 Flying Blue added partnerships with Amazon, Uber, Hertz, and French rail operator SNCF.
