The Nordy Club is a tiered department-store program that deliberately admits non-cardholders. Members earn points that convert into Nordstrom Notes, a store currency spendable in person or online, and progress through tiers set by annual spend. Cardholders earn faster and reach higher tiers more easily, but shoppers who pay by other means still enroll, accrue, and receive recognition.
That open structure is the notable design choice. Many retail programs gate their best benefits behind a store credit card. By letting anyone join and earn, Nordstrom captures identity and purchase data from customers who would never take on a card, then uses tier benefits and events to court them toward higher spend and, over time, the card.
The lesson for an enterprise operator is that coupling the program to card ownership too tightly leaves data and relationships on the table. Separating membership from the credit product widens the enrolled base and the first-party data set, while a spend-based tier ladder still concentrates the richest rewards on the most valuable customers, cardholder or not.
