Overview
Gap Good Rewards began on September 24, 2020, as Gap's branded version of a new Gap Inc. program. It took over from BRIGHT Rewards, whose 9.5 million members moved across automatically. A relaunch on July 22, 2021 combined the credit card and loyalty programs, and Gap Inc. then counted more than 37 million cardmembers and rewards members. On February 24, 2026, the company rebranded the program as Encore across its U.S. brands. Gap's FAQ says Gap Good Rewards members became Encore members on their own. A Gap Good Rewards Credit Card keeps working and now carries All-Access status.
Encore's numbers look bigger than the old ones, but the value did not change. Members now earn 5 points per $1 and need 500 points for $1. The 2021 program paid 1 point per $1 and redeemed in 100-point steps. Both work out to 1% back for Core and Premier members and 5% for cardmembers, as Gap's FAQ confirms. Points count on merchandise at Gap, Gap Factory, Old Navy, Banana Republic and Athleta. Discounts, gift cards, taxes and shipping are left out. A Gap balance lapses after a full year with no earning or redeeming.
The larger change is what points can buy. Besides dollars off at any brand, they now buy goods in the Encore Market, which took the place of the Rewards Marketplace. At launch it carried items never sold before, limited runs, signed pieces and a trip to the New York studio of Zac Posen, Gap Inc.'s creative director. Gap Inc. tied Encore to entertainment partners such as Disney, NBCUniversal and AMC Theatres. Gap Inc. announced an Encore New York Fashion Week program for September 9 to 14, 2026, with access to shows from labels including Sandy Liang and Kim Shui. Select cardmember experiences were available through direct invitation.
Premier now starts at $350 of qualifying purchases in a calendar year, below the $500 that opened the old Enthusiast tier. Spend at any of the brands counts toward it, and the status carries through the following year. Premier adds free standard shipping at $50, a 45-day return window and a 15% sale day once a year. All-Access depends on holding a card rather than on spend. In 2021 the top tier, Icon, was open to anyone who spent $1,000 in a year. Encore's cardmembers get free shipping at $35, birthday gifts for themselves and up to three relatives, and a 20% sale day.
Barclays issues the Gap Encore Credit Card and the Gap Encore Mastercard. Gap Inc. signed its Barclays and Mastercard deals on April 13, 2021, and in June 2022 it said its 10 million existing cardmembers would move to the Barclays program. Gap Inc.'s 10-K says it received a $60 million upfront payment under those deals before the cards launched, plus a share of card revenue. A new Gap card takes 20% off the first Gap purchase within 14 days, and a 25% offer ran from September 30 to October 3, 2026. It also carries a one-time discount at each sister brand in the same window, though the two offers cannot be combined. On January 31, 2026, Gap Inc. held $272 million of deferred revenue for gift cards, licensing, loyalty points and card reward reimbursements.
The Mastercard pays 15 points per $1, or 3% back, at other clothing stores, while Amazon, Target, Walmart and wholesale clubs are left out. Those points can only be spent at Gap Inc. brands or in the Encore Market. Of the $13.56 billion Gap Inc. sold in the U.S. in fiscal 2025, the Gap brand accounted for $2.68 billion, about a fifth. Since every brand counts toward Premier, a Gap shopper who also buys at Old Navy reaches the $350 line sooner than Gap spend alone would allow.
