Kroger Plus

Kroger's free loyalty card built on Points and personalized digital deals, with a paid Boost membership on top.

Kroger Plus is the loyalty program of grocery operator Kroger, built around a free Plus Card. Members earn Points, renamed from Fuel Points in June 2026 and now redeemable against groceries as well as fuel, and get personalized digital coupons and member pricing. A paid Boost by Kroger Plus membership adds delivery benefits and accelerated earning on top of the free card.

Kroger Plus pairs a free loyalty card with a savings currency and a paid membership. The free Plus Card gives member pricing and personalized digital coupons, and it earns Points. Boost by Kroger Plus, sold in two levels, Boost Essential and Boost, adds delivery benefits and faster accrual for members who want more.

For most of the program's life the currency was called Fuel Points and did one job. In June 2026 Kroger renamed it to Points and opened redemption to groceries, so 100 points now buys either a dollar off a grocery order, capped at ten dollars a day, or ten cents a gallon at the pump, capped at a dollar a gallon. New chief executive Greg Foran framed the move as simplification, saying the retailer's promotions had become too complicated.

The fuel link was the original engine. Groceries and gas are both frequent, price-sensitive purchases, so letting grocery spend fund pump savings gave members a concrete reason to scan the card on every visit. That scan, in turn, feeds Kroger's personalization and its large retail-media and data business, which monetizes the resulting first-party purchase history. Widening redemption to groceries keeps that scan habit for the many members who do not buy fuel from Kroger at all.

The lesson for an enterprise operator is that a program's real value can sit downstream of the reward. Kroger's Fuel Points are useful to members, but the strategic payoff is the identified transaction data the card captures at scale, which powers targeted offers, private-label steering, and advertising revenue. The paid Boost tier then monetizes the most engaged households on top of that base.
