Shangri-La Circle launched on 28 April 2022, replacing the long-running Golden Circle. The relaunch reset how the currency works. Points now carry a fixed redemption value, roughly one US dollar off the bill for every fifteen points, and members can pay part or all of a stay with them. Crucially, points are earned not only on rooms but across dining, spa, wellness, and merchandise. Status qualifies by nights or by tier points, and the program added an invitation-only Polaris tier with benefits that extend even to non-staying guests.
The design signal is where earning and redemption happen. By making points a fixed-value currency spendable against the whole bill, and by letting members earn across food, beverage, and wellness rather than rooms alone, Shangri-La pulls loyalty into its non-room revenue lines. For a luxury operator whose guests spend heavily on dining and spa, that widens the surface the program touches. The operator lesson is that broadening a currency beyond the room, in both earn and burn, turns a room-loyalty program into a property-loyalty program, deepening engagement with the guests who spend the most on site.
