Subway Sub Club is the chain's current loyalty program, relaunched on 1 December 2025 under a name Subway had retired two decades earlier. It replaced Subway MVP Rewards, the points program launched in September 2023, and MVP members and their balances converted across automatically. Members earn 10 points per dollar and convert points to Subway Cash at 400 points for two dollars, a fixed and legible value. The annual-spend tiers MVP Rewards ran, Pro, Captain, and All-Star, did not survive the relaunch.

The relaunch is a short, instructive case in reward economics colliding with franchisee economics. Sub Club returned with the benefit that made the original famous, every fourth footlong free, worth roughly a quarter off for a member who bought accordingly. Franchisees representing about 5,000 locations petitioned head office that the giveaway was too generous, and Subway withdrew it on 1 April 2026, four months after launch, leaving points and Subway Cash as the whole program.

For an enterprise operator the lesson is about who funds the reward. In a franchised network the brand designs the program but the franchisee absorbs the discount at the counter, so a benefit that wins members can still fail the people paying for it. Subway launched a nostalgic, high-value mechanic, met resistance from its operators, and reversed inside a single quarter, spending the goodwill of the relaunch to do it. Model the unit economics with franchisees before promising the headline benefit, not after.
