Domino's Rewards was relaunched in September 2023 as a deliberately more accessible program. Earning is per qualifying order rather than per dollar: 10 points on any order of five dollars or more, down from the previous 10-dollar threshold. Redemption was widened from a single reward tier to three, at 20, 40, and 60 points, mapping to escalating free items from a dipping cup or bread bites up to a two-topping pizza. Points expire after 180 days without an order.
The relaunch is a case study in loosening a program to grow participation. Halving the qualifying order size brought smaller baskets into the program, and adding cheap, fast redemptions gave lighter customers a reachable goal, so more members reach a first reward and stay engaged. The tradeoff is a larger and faster-turning liability, because far more orders now earn and far more members redeem sooner.
For an enterprise operator, Domino's Rewards shows the growth-versus-liability tradeoff in sharp relief. The lesson is that lowering earn thresholds and multiplying low-cost redemptions reliably lifts active membership, but only a program that can model the resulting redemption velocity should make the change, because the liability profile shifts with it.
