DashPass and Uber One are paid memberships, a model our glossary calls paid loyalty. Each costs $9.99 a month in the U.S., and each waives delivery fees on eligible orders. They differ in what else the fee buys. DashPass stays close to delivery. Uber One reaches into rides, hotels and car rentals.

Is DashPass or Uber One better?

For people who mostly order delivery, DashPass is the better fit. It states U.S. order minimums of $12 for restaurants and $25 for groceries. It also pairs with Lyft discounts. For people who also ride, Uber One is the better fit, because it pays 5% back in credits on rides, 10% back on hotels and 10% credits on car rentals.

The price is the same, so the choice follows how you spend. Both memberships cost $9.99 a month or $96 a year at DoorDash and the same at Uber, plus taxes. A person who orders a few times a month and never rides has little reason to pick Uber One. A person who rides weekly gains more from Uber One.

What does each membership cost?

Both companies charge $9.99 a month or $96 a year. Twelve months at the monthly price is $119.88, so the annual plan saves $23.88, or about 20%. Uber adds taxes to both prices. Uber also lists a 4-week free trial for eligible first-time members. DoorDash gives a free trial to people who have not tried DashPass.

Both memberships renew on their own. DoorDash says a membership will auto-renew on the billing date until you cancel. Uber says the same, and lets members pause a monthly plan. Canceling during a DashPass trial ends the benefits right away. After the billing date, the benefits last to the end of the billing cycle.

How do the delivery savings compare?

DoorDash says DashPass members get $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders that meet the subtotal minimum. Eligible merchants carry a green DashPass symbol. DoorDash also says members save an average of $4 to $5 per eligible order. That claim is DoorDash’s own, but it gives a rough break-even. At $5 saved per order, two orders cover $9.99.

Uber lists a $0 Delivery Fee plus up to 10% off orders at stores marked with the Uber One icon. Uber says minimum basket sizes vary, and some are higher or lower than before. Each store shows its minimum before you order.

What do the memberships not cover?

Both memberships leave some fees in place. DoorDash says other fees, taxes and tips still apply. Uber says other fees and taxes apply too.

Taxes and other fees do not count toward Uber’s order minimums. Uber can charge extra for priority or long-range delivery. Check the total at checkout before you trust a free delivery label.

For illustration, take a member who orders six times a month. At DoorDash’s own average of $4 per eligible order, the savings come to $24 a month, against a $9.99 fee. A rider is different. At 5% back, credits alone cover the fee only at about $200 a month in eligible ride spend. The delivery savings do the rest of the work for most members.

What about rides, hotels and rentals?

Uber One reaches beyond delivery. Members earn 5% Uber One credits back on rides. They also get 10% back on hotel bookings and earn 10% credits on car rentals. Members traveling abroad earn credits and get $0 delivery where Uber offers it. Those perks come as Uber One credits.

The credits have limits. Uber One credits expire 60 days after they post to the wallet. They are also revocable when the membership ends. A member who earns credits and cancels loses them. DoorDash’s ride offer is 5% off on-demand Lyft rides and 10% off scheduled airport rides, for up to four rides a month, in the U.S. only.

Are there student plans?

Yes, at both companies. DoorDash’s Student DashPass costs $4.99 a month or $48 a year. For new members, DoorDash also runs a promotion. Students who sign up between August 17 and October 12, 2026 get Student DashPass free for a year. After 12 months, the plan moves to $4.99 a month. When student status ends, it moves to $9.99 a month. Students also get 5% credit back on eligible pickup orders.

Uber One for Students costs $4.99 a month or $48 a year, and members must be 18 or older. Uber’s student page lists extra savings from brands plus free items, such as a free Grande beverage on Starbucks Mondays. Both companies verify students through SheerID.

Can you share a membership with family?

Both companies let a member share with one other person. A DashPass member can invite one additional person to share the membership for free. Plans from partners such as Chase are not eligible. An Uber One member can link one secondary member at a time. Uber excludes student plans and free trials from sharing. The secondary member must be an adult.

Which cards include a free membership or trial?

Several cards fund memberships, and the terms differ. The Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business card provides a complimentary DashPass membership for 12 months. Apple Card holders get a six-month free trial of Uber One when they sign up with Apple Pay, and the plan then renews at $9.99 a month.

American Express offers two Uber perks. Eligible Gold Card members can get a statement credit of up to $96 for an annual Uber One plan bought by October 30, 2026. Platinum Card members get up to $200 a year in Uber Cash, which is cash for rides and orders and not a membership.

How do you cancel or pause?

DoorDash says to cancel 24 hours before the next payment to avoid a charge. After that, benefits last through the current billing period. A member can also pause instead of canceling. Uber lets members cancel in the app under Manage Membership and End Membership. Its terms say the charge is non-refundable once a billing cycle begins, except where the law says otherwise.

The two cancel rules differ at the edge. Cancel late at DoorDash and the next charge stands. Cancel late at Uber and the terms say a charge within 24 hours of renewal is refunded automatically. Read the renewal date before you cancel at either company.

Which membership should you choose?

  • People who mostly order food or groceries: DashPass. Its minimums start at $12.
  • People who ride and order: Uber One. It pays credits on rides, and $9.99 covers both.
  • Frequent travelers: Uber One. It adds hotel and car rental credits.
  • New students before October 12, 2026: DashPass, for the free first year.
  • Apple Card holders: Uber One, for the six-month trial.
  • Households that split a plan: either one. Both share with one other person.

What can loyalty teams learn from the two memberships?

Both companies treat the fee as a bet on frequency. DoorDash says DashPass lowers consumer fees. It raises order frequency and retention, at a lower gross margin percentage.

DoorDash’s 10-Q says its memberships reduce the delivery and service fees charged. In Q2 2026, DashPass members placed about 75% of U.S. grocery and retail orders. Uber says members account for more than 70% of Delivery Gross Bookings.

The reward designs differ. DashPass pays in waived fees, which leave no balance to track. Uber One pays partly in credits, which expire in 60 days and give a rider a reason to book again soon. Free trials and partner plans also add members. DoorDash’s own member count includes paid, trial and partnership accounts, so a headline number mixes the three.

Paid tiers are program logic, and teams change them often. On GRAVTY, Loyalty Juggernaut’s platform, a paid program is a matter of configuration. Paid tiers and their entitlements are authored in Visual Rules, a patented no-code rules engine. A free base with paid tiers is a native shape on the platform. Our guide to paid loyalty programs covers pricing, renewal and design.

Scale is the other test. Deutsche Telekom runs one program with 4,500 partners across 9 countries on GRAVTY. WestJet moved off Siebel onto GRAVTY, and its year-end rollover now takes 28 hours, down from 10 days.
