Uber One is a paid membership rather than an earn-and-burn program. For 9.99 dollars a month or 96 dollars a year in the United States, a member gets a bundle of benefits that spans both sides of Uber's business: no delivery fee and up to 10 percent off eligible Uber Eats orders above minimums, and credits back on eligible rides, along with member pricing during busy periods. Value comes as fee waivers and credits, not a points balance.
The strategic design point is the cross-service bundle. A single fee covers savings on both rides and food delivery, which is what makes the membership worth buying: a customer only needs to be reasonably active across the two services for the perceived value to exceed the subscription price. That bundling is also what defends the fee, because it raises the frequency a member has to reach before cancelling feels rational.
For an enterprise operator, Uber One is the model for paid, or premium, loyalty. The lesson is that a subscription converts loyalty from a cost center into a revenue line and a hard retention lock, but it only holds when the member has enough frequency across the bundled services that the fee feels recovered. The breadth of the bundle is the lever that makes the economics work.
