The HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card, launched in 2022, allowed consumers to earn Star Alliance Points convertible to miles with seven airlines. HSBC Bank Australia has announced the card will close on November 18, 2026, as the bank winds down its consumer retail business in Australia. Customers can earn Star Alliance Points on eligible purchases up to and including November 17, 2026. All points earned before that date will transfer to the user’s Star Alliance Rewards account. Existing Star Alliance Silver or Gold status issued by airlines remains unchanged. Users can continue to access their Star Alliance Rewards account and convert points to participating airline programs, though final dates for portal use and conversions will be notified later. Points or miles already in airline frequent flyer accounts are unaffected. HSBC directs customers to its website or customer service for further updates on status benefits. The product was positioned as the first universal airline alliance credit card in Australia, a market without an alliance partner airline since 2001.
