US gas rewards programs pay in cents off per gallon, and the fine print decides what a driver keeps. This guide compares the national and regional programs from their own terms and program pages, as published on October 7, 2026. Fuel offers change often, so each value below is dated. Each section also notes what the program does well as a design, for the teams who build loyalty programs.
What is the best gas rewards program?
For drivers who fill up often, Shell Fuel Rewards is the best gas rewards program. It is free to join, and status savings rise from 3¢ to 10¢ off every gallon as a driver fills up more. Platinum takes 12 fills in a quarter. The right pick still depends on where you buy gas and groceries:
- A discount from the first fill: bp’s earnify takes 5¢ off every gallon at bp and Amoco. Prime members who link get 10¢.
- Store regulars: 7-Eleven gives 5¢ or more off a gallon on every fill. New members get 11¢ off for their first seven fills or 90 days.
- Grocery shoppers: Safeway and Albertsons points take up to $1.00 off a gallon at gas stations the grocer owns.
- Drivers who pay from a bank account: Exxon’s Direct Debit+ takes 10¢ a gallon off, and Circle K’s Easy Pay card takes at least 10¢ off.
- Points that also work in the store: Exxon Mobil Rewards+ pays 3 points a gallon, and 100 points take $1 off fuel or snacks.
How do gas rewards programs compare?
The table sets the main programs side by side, with values from their own pages on October 7, 2026. Gallon limits apply to each fill, and expiry is what the terms say happens to unused savings or points.
| Program | Everyday fuel saving | How to save more | Gallon limit per fill | Expiry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shell Fuel Rewards | 3¢ Silver, 5¢ Gold, 10¢ Platinum | 6 fills a quarter for Gold, 12 for Platinum; 10¢ per $50 at partner restaurants | 35 gallons on status savings; 20 when other rewards are stacked | Account can close after 3 years with no rewards |
| Exxon Mobil Rewards+ | 3 points a gallon (6 on premium); 100 points = $1 | Direct Debit+ 10¢ (12¢ premium); up to 20¢ combined | Not stated for points | Points expire after 1 year |
| earnify (bp, Amoco) | 5¢ always on | 200 points = 5¢ more; 10¢ total for Amazon Prime members | Not stated | Points lapse after 90 days with no activity |
| 7-Eleven 7Rewards | 5¢ or more | 11¢ for the first 7 fills or 90 days; up to 5¢ more for verified groups | 40 gallons in the terms | In-store fuel savings expire in 60 days |

Shell Fuel Rewards: status built on how often you fill up
Shell has run the program itself since April 28, 2025. Status sets the everyday saving: 3¢ a gallon at Silver, 5¢ at Gold and 10¢ at Platinum. Gold takes 6 fills in a quarter and Platinum takes 12. A fill must be at least 10 gallons, and a fill of V-Power NiTRO+ premium counts as two. New members in 2026 get 10¢, 20¢ and 30¢ off their first three fills.
Savings reach past the pump. Members earn 10¢ a gallon for every $50 at partner restaurants, and can link a grocery program to spend grocery points at Shell. Paying with Shell S Pay from a linked account saves 10¢, or 15¢ for Platinum members. Status savings cover up to 35 gallons, or 20 when other rewards are stacked.
The design lesson is the quarterly reset. Status is earned every three months, so a driver is always close to the next fill that keeps the discount. The stepped welcome offer of 10¢, 20¢ and 30¢ builds the same habit from the first week.
Exxon Mobil Rewards+: points that work at the pump and in the store
Exxon Mobil Rewards+ pays in points, and its app is free to download. Members earn 3 points a gallon and 2 points per $1 in the store and car wash. Premium fuel earns 6 points a gallon. Every 100 points take $1 off fuel, snacks or drinks. Members who buy 100 or more gallons of premium fuel in a month earn one more point a gallon.
The bigger saving comes from how a member pays. The Exxon Mobil Direct Debit+ account takes 10¢ a gallon off regular fuel and 12¢ off premium. Combined offers reach up to 20¢ a gallon. Points expire after one year. The design keeps the reward in one loop: fuel earns points, and points buy fuel or a snack on the next visit.
earnify at bp and Amoco: a discount from the first fill
bp replaced BPme Rewards with earnify, a free app for bp and Amoco stations. Members get 5¢ off every gallon with no fill count to reach. They pay with the app, swipe a linked card or enter their phone number at the pump. Members also earn 1 point per $1 on fuel and 2 in the store, and 200 points buy another 5¢ off a gallon.
Amazon Prime members who link their accounts save 10¢ a gallon in total, at more than 7,500 locations. Points expire after 90 days with no activity, and a reward used with a phone number does not stack with other offers. The partnership is the design to study: a partner’s paid membership becomes a reason to pick one forecourt.
7-Eleven 7Rewards and Speedway: two programs under one owner
7Rewards is free. Members get 5¢ or more off a gallon on every fill after a welcome offer of 11¢ for the first seven fills or 90 days, whichever ends first. Military members, teachers and some other groups can save up to 5¢ more after ID checks. Points earn 10 per $1 in the store, but they cannot buy fuel discounts. They expire after 90 days with no activity.
7-Eleven, Inc. also runs Speedway, and Speedy Rewards still runs as its own program. Members earn 10 points a gallon and 20 per $1 in the store. Speedway’s terms carry the same 11¢ welcome offer. Fuel discounts cover 25 gallons per fill and two fills a day, and points expire after nine months with no activity. Under one owner, each brand keeps its own point rules, so each customer base stays on the program it knows.
Circle K Inner Circle: every visit counts
Circle K Inner Circle changed on September 2, 2026. Members now earn Visits. A fill of five gallons or more earns one, and so does a store purchase of $3 or more. Visits buy small rewards, like a snack at 5 Visits or a coffee at 10. A member can also save them for up to $1 off a gallon.
New members save 25¢ a gallon on their first five fuel Visits, on up to 35 gallons. Visits expire after six months and rewards after 30 days. The Easy Pay card, linked to a checking account, takes at least 10¢ off every gallon. The redesign is the operator lesson. One currency now counts the pump and the store the same way, so the coffee buyer and the commuter climb together.
Which regional gas rewards programs are worth joining?
Sheetz gives members 3¢ off a gallon on every fill just for joining My Sheetz Rewardz. Members earn 5 points per $1 in the store, but not on fuel. Those points can go toward more fuel savings. Chevron and Texaco pay 5 points a gallon toward 5¢ to 50¢ off, on up to 25 gallons.
Sunoco Go Rewards takes 3¢ a gallon off when members pay in the Sunoco app. A linked bank account adds 10¢ more for a limited time. RaceTrac members earn points on fuel and in the store, but fuel savings need a paid VIP membership. Wawa rewards cannot be used on fuel in New Jersey, or anywhere state law prohibits it.
How do grocery fuel points work?
Grocery fuel points turn the weekly shop into cents off a gallon. At Safeway and other Albertsons stores, forU members earn 1 point per $1 on groceries. Every 100 points take 10¢ off a gallon, on up to 25 gallons. The cap depends on the station: up to $1.00 a gallon at stations the grocer owns, and typically 20¢ at partner stations. Points expire within two calendar months, including the month they were earned. Points do not expire for forU+ subscribers, where that plan is offered.
For illustration, a household that spends $1,000 on groceries in a month earns 1,000 points. At a station the grocer owns, those points take $1.00 off each of 25 gallons, or $25 off one fill. At a partner station capped at 20¢, the same fill saves $5. The station choice matters more than the points.
Kroger shoppers earn fuel points too. Shell’s grocery page says they earn 1 fuel point for every $1 and can use those points for 10¢ to $1 off a gallon at Shell. For the wider grocery picture, see the best grocery loyalty programs.
Do warehouse clubs have gas rewards?
Costco pays no rewards on gas through its membership. Its gas stations are open to Costco members only, though prepaid Shop Card holders can use them too. The Executive Membership pays a 2% Reward on most purchases, but Costco’s terms say rewards are not calculated on gasoline.
Can you stack gas rewards?
Yes, within each program’s rules. Shell stacks status savings with other rewards, but the lowest gallon limit then applies. Its Shell S Pay saving already includes Silver and Gold status savings, so the two do not add. Linking an American Airlines account replaces Shell status savings with miles. Exxon’s combined offers reach 20¢ a gallon at most, and earnify rewards used with a phone number do not stack.
The cleanest stack pairs a program with a pay method from the same brand. Shell Fuel Rewards pairs with Shell S Pay, and Exxon Mobil Rewards+ with Direct Debit+. Inner Circle pairs with Easy Pay. Credit cards add another layer, covered in our guide to the best credit card rewards programs.
What do the best fuel programs do well as program design?
Fuel is a frequent purchase, and a driver can fill up at almost any brand. The programs above show four ways to earn a repeat visit.
- Tier on frequency. Shell resets status every quarter, so the next fill always counts.
- Tie the discount to a pay method. Exxon, Circle K and Shell each pay at least 10¢ a gallon to members who pay from a linked bank account.
- Count the store and the pump in one unit. Circle K’s Visits and Exxon’s points both treat a coffee and a fill as the same kind of progress.
- Borrow a bigger program. Grocery links, Amazon Prime at bp and dining rewards at Shell bring members in from outside the forecourt.

How does GRAVTY run fuel, convenience and grocery loyalty?
Loyalty Juggernaut’s grocery page names a common problem: the fuel discount, the store card and the app often began in different years under different teams. On GRAVTY, Loyalty Juggernaut’s platform, the same member record shows up at the store till, the forecourt and the app. Earn rates, currencies and tiers for each brand are settings in the Visual Rules engine.
In the Nordics, Spenn’s shared points span grocery, store and fuel brands, such as REMA 1000, 7-Eleven, Narvesen and Uno-X. They have run on GRAVTY since June 2026. In Mexico, Spin Premia by FEMSA runs across 33,000 OXXO stores. Loyalty Juggernaut reports that it grew loyalty-driven revenue by 554% in three years. See grocery and convenience loyalty on GRAVTY.
