Walmart and Wing have launched a drone delivery service covering five stores in the Orlando area of Florida. This marks the first market for Wing in the state. The service forms part of an expanding partnership between the companies. Plans call for coverage at more than 270 Walmart locations by 2027, including future markets such as New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, Salt Lake City and Memphis. The Orlando launch targets the area’s diverse and growing population. It aims to help local residents and vacation visitors receive everyday items without long drives. Greg Cathey, SVP of e-commerce fulfillment transformation at Walmart, stated that working with Wing brings customers a wide assortment of items through one of the fastest delivery options. Wing drones currently handle loads up to 2.5 pounds, with plans to raise that limit to five pounds. The drones reach speeds of 60 miles per hour and lower packages via tether. Previously, Walmart operated drone deliveries in Florida with another provider until the end of 2024, and two of those stores now fall under the Wing service. Retailers continue to test drone options for faster fulfillment in select regions.
