Avis Preferred is the free loyalty program of Avis Rent A Car, and its core perk is skipping the rental counter. Members who opt in earn points on the base rental rate: 1 per dollar, rising to 1.25 at Preferred Plus and 1.5 at President's Club. The cheapest reward day costs 700 points. Preferred Plus takes 10 rentals or $4,000 in a calendar year, and President's Club takes 20 rentals or $6,000.

Overview
Skipping the line is the first promise of Avis Preferred. Every member gets counter bypass and goes straight to the car at most locations, with rental preferences saved in the profile. Points are a separate choice: a member has to opt in to earn them. Avis Budget Group's 2025 annual report describes the program the same way, as counter bypass, upgrades and rewards by tier. Its sister brand Budget runs a separate program, Budget Fastbreak, built around the same counter bypass.
Points come from the time and mileage charge, before taxes, fees and surcharges. A base member earns 1 point per dollar on the rental and 2 per dollar on accessories. Preferred Plus earns 1.25 and 2.5, and President's Club earns 1.5 and 3. New members get 100 bonus points for a first rental within three months of joining.
Redemption follows a four-level chart set by the standard base rate of the car and location. A rental up to $50 a day costs 700 points per day. From $50.01 to $85 it costs 1,400, from $85.01 to $125 it costs 2,100, and from $125.01 to $225 it costs 3,500. Reward days carry no blackout dates, and accessories cost 250 points each per day. A base member at 1 point per dollar therefore needs $700 of rental spend for one entry-level free day.
Status is counted in rentals or dollars within a calendar year, and a rental only counts if it starts and ends in that year. Preferred Plus takes 10 rentals or $4,000, and it adds a free one-class upgrade when the member reserves a midsize car or larger. President's Club takes 20 rentals or $6,000. It adds a two-class upgrade, a guaranteed car up to full size with 24 hours' notice and a dedicated phone line. A member who misses the bar drops one tier, so a lapsed President's Club member lands at Preferred Plus first. JetBlue's Mosaic members also receive Avis status through a partner match.
Points do not sit forever. A member becomes inactive after 12 months with no eligible rental or no points earned or redeemed, and an inactive member loses the whole balance without notice. The balance sheet shows what those points are worth to the company. Avis Budget Group deferred $59 million of revenue for its loyalty program in 2025 and recognized $54 million, ending the year with $55 million on the books.
The chart shows where Avis puts the value. Because reward days are priced by the car's base rate band, a member gets the same day for 700 points whether the rental would have cost $20 or $50. The best return goes to members who redeem near the top of a band. The status bars ask for twice the rentals of the entry tier to reach the top, and the upgrade and guaranteed-car benefits reward the business traveler who books often at short notice.
